June - Beta - HowNow Edit App version 1.0.83.0

This is a new version of the Edit App that is being released as a Beta version to correct issues where documents are not being saved back correctly to HowNow Online. 


These issues are occurring because the files are instantly trying to unlock as soon as the document is closed and due to different versions of office/windows handling the closing process in different ways we are unable to provide a solution that will reliably work with all environments. For this reason we have introduced a 24 hour wait on the automatic unlocking of documents. 


Users are still able to manually unlock the file once it has been saved and synced back up to HowNow Online.


These are the steps they should follow:


  1. Edit the file using normal edit button icon within HowNow Online
  2. Edit/Work on the document and save using the Microsoft Office Save button (on every save the document will be saved to HowNow Online)
  3. Close the document in Microsoft Office - the document will still be locked in HowNow Online
  4. Click on the padlock icon in HowNow Online to manually unlock the file for editing OR if you forget to unlock the file it will automatically be unlocked after 24 hours


This version will automatically backup a file if it is noticed that you are editing a document that is unlocked but you have a previous version of it in your local editing folder. You can browse to the local editing folder to find the backup files if needed - C:\Users\[User]\AppData\Local\HowNow\Edit\Files\[Client]\backups


Version 1.0.83.0 has been released to selected clients reporting issues at this stage as a Beta application.
